Aquaculture is an important industry globally, for supplying an important food source to the population. However, crowded growth conditions can lead to poor quality water and nutrition in aquaculture farms. These conditions can make infectious diseases more common than in the wild. This provides a prime opportunity for implementation of PlantPharm BioMed’s edible vaccine platform.

Two close-in vaccine options in aquaculture are a Salmon vaccine to address Enteric Redmouth Disease, and a Shrimp Vaccine to address Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND). An oral vaccination is the only economic option for these species and would eliminate more expensive and labor intensive processes such as individual injection, or introduction of the vaccine via an immersion method.
